The Corvette ZR1: A Record-Breaking Supercar

The Corvette ZR1 is on a mission to conquer the world of lap records. Earlier this year, Chevrolet's flagship supercar set out to prove its mettle across five legendary circuits. Now, with another top time under its belt, the ZR1 continues to make headlines.

A 2026 Corvette ZR1, driven by Canadian racing legend Ron Fellows, recently shattered the Mosport production car record with a time of 1:18.2. This beats the previous record set by a 2023 Z06, also driven by Fellows, by a significant margin of 3.92 seconds.

Fellows, a co-owner of the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, is no stranger to Corvettes or Canadian racing circuits. His expertise and experience make him the ideal candidate for this task. When you combine his skills with a car boasting 1,064 horsepower and the ZTK downforce package, you're bound to see some impressive results.

"With more downforce, you can be more aggressive in the corners," Fellows explains. "In Turn 8, I was braking at the same spot as with the Z06 but at over 20 mph faster."

The ZR1's power comes from its twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 engine, mounted near the rear. Chevy claims it can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 2.3 seconds, and the optional downforce package adds up to 1,200 pounds of downward force.

This record-breaking performance at Mosport joins the ZR1's previous achievements at Watkins Glen, Road America, Road Atlanta, and two layouts at Virginia International Raceway. The ZR1X, the ZR1's bigger brother, also holds a record lap time at the legendary Nurburgring in Germany.

It's worth noting that the car used for the lap record appears to be part of the new Stars & Steel collection, a limited-edition series from Chevrolet. This raises the question: is this a subtle advertisement for the upcoming ZR1 model, or is it simply a way for Chevy to showcase the car's origins?

Either way, the ZR1's performance is nothing short of remarkable. Ron Fellows has once again proven himself as the Magician of Mosport, and the ZR1 solidifies its place as a true North American supercar. So, what do you think? Is the ZR1 the ultimate supercar, or is there another model that deserves the title more? Let us know in the comments below!
