For context, Reece is no stranger to big moves – he currently plays for the Crusaders in Super Rugby, a premier regional competition in the Southern Hemisphere that brings together teams from New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, and more. There, he's shattered records by scoring an astounding 66 tries. As a seasoned veteran, he was part of the All Blacks' squad for the 2019 Rugby World Cup and even joined their end-of-year tour, where he dazzled by netting two tries in a commanding 52-26 victory over Wales.
But here's where it gets controversial... Reece's journey to Europe wasn't always smooth. Back in 2018, he had already pledged to join an Irish team, specifically the province of Connacht. However, that deal fell through after he pleaded guilty in a domestic violence case, accused of assaulting his partner at the time. While no formal conviction beyond a fine was handed down, and his legal team argued that harsher penalties could have ended his career, Connacht pulled the plug on the contract.
